From 1999 to 2015, Backyard Sports was a beloved kid-friendly sports game franchise with colorful graphics, easy gameplay, and one of the most dominant athletes in video game history in Pablo Sanchez. Today, Playground Productions has announced that Backyard Sports is coming back, and it’s doing so as more than just video games.Backyard Sports will be returning “across multiple verticals, including video games, merchandise, film, television and more” according to a press release. Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us introduces characters from The Last of Us: Part II the game, including Abby. The character generated a lot of heated discussion when the game came out in 2020, and the expectation is that the cycle will repeat itself with Abby on the TV show. Isabela Merced, who plays Dina in Season 2, responded to the backlash against Abby, saying in an interview, “there are so many strange people in this world.” She also reminded people that Abby, who is played by Kaitlyn Dever on the show, can’t hurt you because she is not real. The video game industry layoff trend continues as Ubisoft has cut 45 jobs across its teams in San Francisco, California and Cary, North Carolina this week.A spokesperson for Ubisoft confirmed to Bloomberg that the company made the “difficult yet necessary decision” to lay off staffers in an effort to “align these studios’ organizations with their future business and development objectives.”Those who lost their jobs will get severance payment and outplacement support. Back in April this year, Ubisoft eliminated 45 jobs across other divisions. The next Transformers movie is almost a month away from premiering and will be the first animated Transformers movie to hit theaters since the 1986 feature. September is traditionally when the box office cools down after the summer blockbusters finish their runs. But if the early word on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is any indication, then this long-awaited sequel is going to buck the trend with an opening weekend worthy of the summer.Via The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to 1988’s Beetlejuice is projected to open with $80 million. If the film manages to pull that off, it will have one of the highest September openings of all time.
